爱伦·坡对于现在的恐怖小说、侦探小说、科幻小说都有深远影响。他那些怪异、恐怖的故事情节，充满夸张、隐喻和象征的表现手法，对于人性、心理和精神状态的细腻描写，都已载入教科书（文学专业的同学又想起了那些年被爱伦·坡支配的恐惧）。
爱伦·坡创作了很多经典，如《厄舍府的倒塌》（The Fall of the House of Usher）、《莫格街谋杀案》（The Murders in the Rue Morgue）等，也许很多同学已经读过。我们今天想推荐的是《泄密的心》（The Tell-Tale Heart）。
这篇短篇小说是一个神经过敏、病态扭曲的年轻人的独白，讲述自己杀人的全过程。他因为邻居老头有一只像兀鹰的眼睛而心生杀机，他谋杀得手后把尸体肢解并埋在了老人卧房的地板之下，但他的幻觉使他混淆了老人怀表走动的声音和心脏的跳动声。

《它》（It）是史蒂芬·金的巅峰之作，小镇的阴霾、历史的循环、现实的残酷、儿时的誓言相互交织令人震撼。
今年上映后口碑爆棚的《小丑回魂：第一部》就改编自这部小说。
故事发生在美国缅因州小镇德里。1958年，6岁的乔治在街道上玩耍时惨死，随后又有数个孩子或失踪或死亡。有七个孩子分别看到了不同的怪像，都认为“它”是凶手，于是决定向“它”宣战。
重创“它”之后，七个孩子约定，若“它”再次出现，他们会重新聚首，直面邪恶。
